1. Many students find it hard to make friends when they are in high school. Keeping my suggestions in mind may give you a hand. They certainly helped me, and by the end of my three years of high school I had formed my group of friends, with whom I still keep in touch now.
Here are my tips:
Say hello anytime I see an acquaintance(相识的人).
Because I was always smiling and greeting the people I knew, people naturally thought I was friendly(though I am not naturally sociable). And high school students want to be friends with sociable people.
Take the first step.
All the girls there already knew each other-they didn't need another friend. But I did, so I had to make the effort. I had to be the first one to invite somebody to go to a movie with me, or come to my house. Once I did that they started to respond(回应) with the same thing.
Use classes to get to know people.
I met most of my first friends because I sat next to them in class. Class (before, after, or even during class time) is a great opportunity to begin a conversation. For example, ask for help about homework.
Make friends slowly.
I couldn't get discouraged when it took a while to make friends. It really takes some time to make new friends. In a word, making new friends is not easy.
Above all, remember that it can and will get better. You may have to work a little to make your high school experience a great one, but it' s really worth it!

2. Do you want to be pretty? You are the only one who can decide you’re truly pretty. To achieve this, first of all, you should be pretty on the inside. In other words, you have to understand that your beauty comes from yourself, not from any outside source(来源). To practice feeling this way, you can write a list of all the good things about yourself. This includes things like helping someone carrying something or listening to a friend. You also can write a list of things that you think are beautiful about yourself. Maybe you have big brown eyes, a cute nose or a great laugh. What’s more, every morning, when you wake up, go to the bathroom mirror, smile at yourself and say aloud, “I am happy.” The more you say it, the more you’ll convince(使…相信) your brain that it’s true.
To be pretty on the inside, at the same time, don’t forget to be attractive by being kind and respectful. So listen to people when they talk, and they’ll notice you’ve taken an interest in their words. Help others out when they are in need, and also don’t judge other people.
On the other hand, you also should be pretty on the outside. For this, you can do something to change your appearance. For example, change your hairstyle. Wear clothes in which you feel comfortable. Also you can give your skin some extra special care to make it look better.
In fact, the key to being pretty on the outside is working to be healthy. If you’re in poor health, you can’t look pretty on the outside. So, to keep healthy, have enough sleep every day and work out in a regular way.

1. An old man was fishing by a river. A child was watching him. The old man was really good at fishing and it didn’t take him much time to catch a basket of fish. The old man saw that the child was cute, and he wanted to give her the whole basket of fish. But the child shook her head.
The old man was surprised and asked ,“Why don’t you want the fish?”
The child replied,“I want the fishing rod(竿) in your hands.” The old man asked, “Why do you want the rod?”
“It won’t take long to eat up all the fish in the basket. But if I have the fishing rod, I can go fishing by myself and I won’t be afraid of not having any fish to eat.” the girl answered.
I think you will certainly say that the child is very smart. Wrong! If she doesn’t know how to fish, she can’t have fish to eat, even though she has the fishing rod. It’s useless only having a fishing rod. Fishing skills are the most important, not the fishing rod.
Too many people think that if they have a “fishing rod”, they will no longer fear the difficulties in life. They are just like the child, who thought that if she had a fishing rod, she would have the fish to eat.

3. At last, the mid-term exams are over. You’ve done the hard work, but you can’t relax. You have to prepare for the next exams. Do you hate exams? If you do, you’re not alone. Students in other countries hate them as well.
Luckily for them, British students have fewer exams than Chinese students. They take a test in each subject only every summer. Each test lasts about an hour. These exams don’t count for much.Even if some students do really badly, they can still enter the higher grade the next year. When the results come out, they are then placed in an end-of-year report. The report is sent to the child’s parents. It describes how the student studies at school.
This report is private(私人的), so only the teacher, the student and his or her parents can see it. This means that the student doesn’t know how other students score on the tests. Some students choose to tell each other, but others keep it a secret.
Parents’ meeting are held twice a year, at the end of the winter term and then at the end of the summer term. Children go along with their parents to meet their teachers privately and discuss their performance(表现) at school.
