2. This is a song. Millions of Americans will hear this song on New Year’s Eve. It is called Auld Lang Syne (《友谊天长地久》). It is the traditional music played during the New Year’s celebration.
Auld Lang Syne is an old Scottish poem. It tells about the need to remember old friends. The words “Auld Lang Syne” means “old long since”. No one knows who wrote the poem first. However, a version (版本) by Scottish poet Robert Burns came out in 1796. The words and music we know today first appeared (出现) in a songbook three years later.
The song is played in the United States mainly on New Year’s Eve. The version you are hearing today is by the Washington Saxophone Quartet. As we end our programme with Auld Lang Syne, I would like to wish all of our radio friends a very Happy New Year! This is Buddy Thomas. Thanks for listening.

“ It’s a dog!” he thought. “If the dog is there, the cat won’t be there. I expect (料想) the dog has chased (追赶) the cat away, so I’m safe.” The mouse ran out of the hole and saw the cat. The cat caught him and ate him.
When the cat finished her meal, she said to herself, “I’m glad I listened to my parents and learned a second language.”

4. The world’s longest high-speed rail line goes through half of China. It began on December 26, 2012.To celebrate the opening of the 2,298 kilometers line, two trains departed（出发） from stations in Beijing and Guangzhou at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m..
Running at an average（平均） speed of 300 kilometers an hour, the new route cuts travel time between Beijing and Guangzhou from over 20 hours to about eight . 155 pairs of trains run on the new line every day.
